Florida man accused of using Kool-Aid packets to steal nearly $1K in Walmart merchandise
NORTH NAPLES, Fla. – A Naples man was arrested Sunday after using a Kool-Aid packet to steal nearly $1,000 worth of merchandise from a North Naples Walmart.
The Florida Man, 37, was arrested and charged with grand theft and shoplifting after deputies said he hid a Kool-Aid packet in his hand while scanning expensive items so they would ring up as 24 cents at a self-checkout register, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
FM used his trick on a $248 scooter, a $119.87 dual navigation system, and $160 worth of batteries. The total came out to $24.44 after Young rang up the three Kool-Aid packets along with a few other small items. The actual total would have been $994.13, deputies say.
The Florida man was no stranger to the Walmart at 5420 Juliet Blvd. The loss prevention officer told deputies she was watching FM because she recognized him from August when he tried to walk out with merchandise.
According to the loss prevention officer, the Florida man also grabbed a soda and fan from the store shelves and took them to customer service where he returned them using a receipt from his phone totaling a $9.48 return.
Deputies arrested FM just outside the Walmart around 6 p.m.
He is currently in custody with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, and is listed as a convicted felon out of Ohio.
